GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM®

GYROTONIC® blends Tai Chi, Kundalini yoga, dance, and swimming moves. GYROTONIC® breathing is coordinated with movements that, like Pilates, originate in the inner core. However, unlike linear Pilates, the motions are 3-D circular, spiraling, arching, curling and undulating. Here, core stabilization is derived from oppositional movements.

The lengthening feature of GYROTONIC®, combined with the rotational movements it employs, makes it a great tool for people with scoliosis and disc herniations, by creating traction to aid in the elongation and realignment of the spine.

GYROTONIC® also is used by athletes for sports–specific training purposes, such as golf, tennis, swimming, and dressage. The benefits of this training can be used as a compliment to weight training and/or cardiovascular programs for those seeking to increase their level of fitness.

GYROTONIC® equipment can adjust to any bodily dimension and guides you through flowing, 3-dimensional, circular, spiral, twisting and undulating patterns which originate in the spine.

The Difference between Pilates and GYROTONIC®:

  • Pilates focuses on alignment control (square); GYROTONIC® works on “releasing” and exploring the limits within a controlled range (circle).
  • Pilates is mostly 2 dimensional, linear movements; GYROTONIC® is more 3 dimensional, with arcs, circles and rotation.
  • Pilates requires more fine tuned control; GYROTONIC® requires more control through a larger range of motion.

Every BODY can benefit from both Pilates for alignment and GYROTONIC® for increasing range of motion. Activities involving broad movements and rotation over a larger range would especially benefit from GYROTONIC®.
